Engineering Summer Academy at Penn
Overview
At ESAP, students learn from professors and students from Penn. We learn basic coding, mechanics, and electronics; everything we would need to know to construct a robot that plays an instrument.
My Experience
This program is the closest thing to actual college life I’ve ever experienced. From living on campus dorms to the classrooms and curriculum, everything was, according to the teaching assistants, were remarkably similar to an actual UPenn course.

GM lab at Levine North.
The first week consisted of mostly lectures and campus tours, followed by practicing the lectured content at UPenn’s GM lab. This allowed me to firmly grasp the theorheticals before launching into the second week which took the previous weeks lessons further while also shifting into a more project-oriented learning style. Finally, in the final week, we students were split into teams and were tasked to design a robot that could play our specified instrument.
